What is the working principle of the roller extrusion granulator in the NPK fertilizer production line

The roller extrusion granulator is an efficient and critical equipment in the NPK (nitrogen phosphorus potassium) fertilizer production line, mainly used to convert dry powder or slightly moist raw materials into uniform particle form. Its working principle is based on the combination of high-pressure extrusion and shear force, and the specific process is as follows:

Workflow

Raw material feeding: The raw material (usually NPK fertilizer powder pre mixed and adjusted to the appropriate humidity) is fed between two opposing rotating rollers.

High pressure extrusion: These two rollers are driven by strong mechanical pressure. When the raw material reaches the narrowest point between the two rollers, it is subjected to tremendous extrusion force, causing plastic deformation and compression into thin sheets.

Fragmentation: Subsequently, due to the discontinuity of its own structure and the effect of internal stress, this thin sheet immediately fractures after leaving the roller, forming many smaller blocks.

Secondary shaping: By adjusting the texture or shape of the roller surface, the fractured block can be further broken into more regular particles, or directly formed into preliminary particles with certain strength and shape.

Cooling and shaping: The formed particles may subsequently require cooling treatment to solidify their structure and prevent deformation or fragmentation during subsequent processing or storage.

Principles of Physics

The granulation process of the roller extrusion granulator mainly depends on the plastic flow characteristics of the material. When the applied pressure exceeds the yield limit of the material, the originally loose powder like raw materials are forced to arrange tightly, reducing the distance between molecules and generating strong binding forces, thereby "fusing" the material into a compact particle structure.

critical factor

Raw material properties: Different raw material formulas and humidity levels can affect the granulation effect, and adjustments need to be made according to specific circumstances.

Roller material and surface treatment: The selection of rollers and their surface characteristics (such as texture depth, hardness, etc.) directly affect the quality of particles, such as hardness, shape, and size uniformity.

Pressure and speed control: The pressure and rotational speed between the rollers are also important factors determining the granulation effect, and need to be carefully balanced to achieve the best results.

By precise control of these key parameters, the roller extrusion granulation machine can efficiently produce uniform and high-strength NPK fertilizer particles, meeting the high standard requirements of agricultural production.
